Michael Moore: Photographer, Artist, Creative Thinker
My Background
Born in Tampa, Florida, I attended high school at H.B. Plant High where I specialized in advanced art and business. After my studies, I joined the US Army where I served as an intelligence analyst with the 1st Calvary Division HQ G2. During my time in I was deployed to Iraq for Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm where I received an Army Commendation Medal for the development and maintenance of three separate intelligence databases. Due to a service connection injury I was honorably discharged and began a career in restaurant and retail management. After nearly 30 years, I decided to go to college and obtain my B.F.A. degree in Graphic Design and a minor in Photography. I attended the highly acclaimed Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD University) graduating summa cum laude, while developing my skills and knowledge in these creative fields.
Who I am as a Photographer, Artist and Designer
Although I love creating art and designing logos and designs, I feel I am most comfortable behind the lens when shooting photographs. It is this passion that drives me most intensely. I love to do more common work such as portraits and commercial photography but I have a passion to tell stories or shed light onto subjects that may need it. I find the simplicity of black and white photography to be an interesting challenge as you are working void of color that typically helps define mood. Instead, you must find the drama or story within a world of light and shadows. I also appreciate the intricacies of cloud structures and how the light affects everything within them. I look forward to building a collection of work worthy of being displayed for public appreciation.
My Passions
I love to travel and explore. For this, I have to get into the outdoors and that is often where you will find me. From my early morning bike rides to afternoons on the water, spending most of my life in Florida, the coastal lifestyle has a big influence on my personal style. I find the palette and designs of mother nature one of my biggest inspirations. And I most enjoy these things in the company of family and close friends. There is nothing better than to have loved ones to share these experiences with. I have traveled to more than 25 countries with Italy, Switzerland, and Slovakia being a part of my most recent experiences. From the lemons covered coast of Sorrento to the snow capped peaks of the Italian Alps, each location provides new inspirations and enhances my imagination. I have aspirations to continue my travels into the South Pacific in the coming years.
My other passions include fishing, hiking, camping, kayaking, and sampling food/drink flavors from around the world. And as is obvious, art and photography are always a great way for me to share my experiences with others.
